The next title from Sucker Punch is coming later in 2025!
Ghost of Yōtei, the next title from PlayStation studio Sucker Punch, now has a confirmed release date of October 2nd, as per the announcement on the PlayStation Blog. Ghost of Yōtei will be launching exclusively on PS5 but may come to other platforms such as Steam at a later date if following in the same trend as Ghost of Tsushima.
While not considered a direct sequel to Sucker Punch’s previous game, Ghost of Tsushima, Ghost of Yōtei is intended to be “a worthy follow-up to Jin’s journey”. You will take on the role of Atsu, a haunted mercenary on a bloody quest for revenge, set 300 years after the previous game and taking place in 1600s rural Japan.
Along with the release date announcement, a new trailer has been released focusing on the Yōtei Six, the group who haunts Atsu and took everything from her. The trailer also shows off the area of Ezo and glimpses of combat and potential new allies.
Sucker Punch has expanded on the Ghost formula, saying, “We’ve built upon and evolved the way you explore the open world, offering even more freedom and variety”. We can also expect side bounties, returning activities, and new weapon skills in this world.
Preorders for Ghost of Yōtei are expected to go live on May 2nd NZ Time, and a number of preorder bonuses and different editions are available. Preorder bonuses include an in-game mask and seven different PSN avatars, including Atsu and the Yōtei Six members.
There is also a digital deluxe edition and a collector’s edition available for Ghost of Yōtei, with PlayStation saying, “We think this is the best collector’s edition we’ve ever produced”. The collector’s edition will include items such as a replica of Atsu’s Ghost mask and her sash containing the names of Yotei Six, and even a pouch of coins and instructions to play the game featured in Ghost of Yōtei called Zeni Hajiki.
