I recommend these settings to change in Monster Hunter Wilds in order to get the best experience out of the game.
Monster Hunter Wilds has introduced a lot of new systems or changed how things worked from previous titles. Here are some tips and the best settings to change that may improve your experience. This list will expand as we are currently only experiencing the beta; also, please recommend any of your own settings below in the comments. Also if you’re new, check out our intro to the world of Monster Hunter!
Focus Camera
The first setting I recommend changing is the Focus Camera. This setting is deceiving, as there is also a new feature called Focus Mode. Focus Mode, which is excellent; by holding down L2, you can quickly change the trajectory of your attacks and see weak points. Focus Camera, on the other hand, I find to be quite poor. It draws your camera towards the monster during combat, a bit like lock-on in a Dark Souls game. I much prefer having complete control over the camera in Monster Hunter games. You can turn this off in the settings under Camera.
Seikret Controls
The second setting I changed is the Seikret controls. The default option is to speed up with R1, and slow down/stop with R2. You can change this to be fully controlled by the left stick. By pushing the stick forward fully, it will run faster. By pulling the stick back, it will slow or stop. I find this much more intuitive than the R1 and R2 controls.
Dynamic Health/Stamina Bars
Lastly, I recommend turning the dynamic setting for your health and stamina bars off. The dynamic setting hides the bars while not engaged with a monster, but I found myself running out of stamina during combat practice in the training area. Bizarre choice to hide it while you have your weapon out.
Performance or Resolution
Like most modern games nowadays, Monster Hunter Wilds allows for prioritising frame rate or resolution. If you want frames, I would suggest the former, but honestly, the quality did look muddy and is exacerbated even more thanks to the desert and its dark colour scheme.
Monster Hunter Wilds is scheduled for release on February 28 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
