Monster Hunter Wilds – Title Update 1 Showcase + Release Date Confirmed

Monster Hunter Wilds launch was a smash hit for Capcom. They have recently announced the game sold over 8 million copies in just 3 days, obliterating the previous Monster Hunter releases by a significant margin. With such massive commercial success comes great expectations – Capcom has the players, but can they retain them?

Capcom hosted a Monster Hunter Wilds Showcase and showed off their first new content drop for Wilds.

Confirmed to be releasing on April 4th (NZT), the first free title update will include a new monster: Mizutsune. This water leviathan is among the fandom, ranking 14th of all time on Capcom’s recent popularity poll during the Monster Hunter 20th anniversary events, and first appeared as a flagship monster in Monster Hunter Generations on the Nintendo 3DS system.

Monster Hunter Wilds Mizutsune

Known for utilizing soap as a lethal weapon, Mizutsune spits and sprays lethal mixtures of water and soap to clean up any unprepared hunters.

In addition to Mizutsune, Capcom are also releasing two more hunts: Arch-tempered Rey Dau and the much requested repeatable Zoh Shia hunts.

Arch-tempered monsters are a difficulty level above Tempered, but time will tell how tuned this hunt is. Will it match up to Tempered Arkveld, and be worth the grind? We’re excited to find out. Successful hunts of Arch-tempered monsters unlock their Gamma armour set for crafting, and these sets are usually very strong with high levels of skills and slots.

The repeatable Zoh Shia will occasionally show up as a hunt, much like Jin Dahaad. This was a notable absence from the game at launch, and left many players scratching their head as to why they couldn’t replay the hunt of the final story monster. How good does that armour look though, hey!

Another new feature being added is The Grand Hub, a central location for hunters to meet up and interact in new ways. This will include a new activity: Barrel Bowling (huh..?) and NPC’s from various camps (such as the Squad Information Counter) are moving to this new location.

That’s not all – Capcom then revealed the return of the Arena quest system from previous titles. Use pre-built mix-sets in fierce competition against various monsters and compare your hunt times to friends or other hunters world-wide with rankings and leaderboards.

Finally, Capcom wrapped up by showing off a bunch of paid-DLC cosmetic items and a teaser of what’s to come in Free Title Update 2.

Free Title Update 1 is pretty loaded with new content to keep hunters in the field, and we’re looking forward to jumping in on April 4th.
