Nintendo Switch 2 revealed. Confirmed release date of 2025

Nintendo Switch 2 NZ

Nintendo has revealed the first official look at the successor to the Nintendo Switch… The Nintendo Switch 2!

Nintendo has been tempering our expectations recently, warning us there would be no news of a Switch successor before each Nintendo Direct or announcement, so it’s great to finally see this shown off in all its glory.

There is no release date or performance specifications revealed, just a tantalizing look at the hardware in a brief 2-minute video.

In line with rumors and leaks, the Switch 2 has a similar look to its predecessor. Noticeable differences are the controllers appearing to now have a magnetic connection, along with a longer stand. The color scheme has also had a shake-up; the Joy-Cons are now black with the familiar red and blue colors under the joysticks and along the side where it connects with the screen.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is also confirmed to have backwards compatibility; however, there is a warning in the video that says, “Certain Nintendo Switch games may not be supported on or fully compatible with Nintendo Switch 2″. This may allude to certain hardware-reliant games such as the Labo series or Ring Fit Adventure.

Eagle eyed viewers may have noticed 24+ kart positions at the starting line.. will a new Mario Kart title include 20-30+ player online races?

Nintendo have also confirmed more information will be revealed during the next presentation, scheduled for April 2nd 2025 and that playable demo’s will be available at Nintendo events around the world. Fingers crossed we get a demo event here in New Zealand!
