NZ Studios heading to GDC 2025!

Thanks to CODE NZ, eight New Zealand game development teams will be in attendance at The Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2025, presenting at the “Representing Games 2025” event. GDC is considered one of the world’s premier events for developers, bringing together industry professionals, publishers and partners in the video game space. Let’s take a look at our attending teams below, including some familiar faces!

How Was Your Day? – Mad Carnival

How Was Your Day? is a narrative-driven, point-and-click adventure game where you take on the role of 13-year-old Diya. What starts as an ordinary day quickly goes from bad to worse in this 80s-themed adventure. We recently spoke to studio founder, Sam Ramlu about the upcoming title!

Apothecurse – Lesser Key Studios

Apothecurse is a an exploration driven potion crafter with a great looking hand drawn art style. Leon the alchemist arrives in a new land after following the instructions for a strange letter. “Collect, brew and experiment with the deep potion crafting system.”

Match & Mastery – FourFox Interactive

Match and Mastery WePlay Expo

Match & Mastery is another familiar title on this list! A turn-based tactics game with a match-3 twist and roguelike elements. Take on various foes as you combat a magical blight. For more on the title, check out our interview with studio founder, Joe!

KUU – Interactive Tragedy, Limited

KUU is an atmospheric moonbase management game, where you play as a silent caretaker trapped in the fading light of a broken moonhouse. You must survive for 30 days where all your choices seem impossible.

Shape Sender Deluxe – Dead Teapot

Welcome back Sendy, who is your new best friend in Shape Sender Deluxe. A physics-based puzzle game where you use items such as magnets, springs and portals in creative ways. For more about Shape Sender Deluxe, check out our interview!

Teeto – Eat Pant Games

Teeto is an adorable 3D adventure platformer where you join Teeto and companion, Nory on a heartfelt adventure. Teeto can absorb the environment, taking on new abilities and appearances while taking down the shadow creatures of corruption. We loved the demo that’s now available with a new update, and recently talked to studio founder, Mitch about the game.

Tryhard – Grapefruit Games Ltd.

Tryhard is a turn-based sports RPG about managing an underdog rugby club in New Zealand. In this blend of tactical RPG, auto battler, and sports genres, players can expect a full featured story mode as they take on other teams.

Shelflife: Art School Detective – Fnife Games

ShelfLife: Art School Detective is a Detective Dating Sim that emphasises relationship-building, exploration, and psychic powers. In this mystery, you will be hunting down the mysterious ART KILLER as you investi-DATE (yes that’s a real word now) potential suspects and astral project into artwork.
