Xbox has recently had their latest Developer Direct, showcasing upcoming games coming in 2025. We got brand new gameplay and an inside look at the development process of games such as Doom: The Dark Ages, South Of Midnight, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, as well as a new reveal from Team Ninja.
Ninja Gaiden 4 – Team Ninja/PlatinumGames (Tokyo, Japan)
Starting off the direct with a brand new title from Team Ninja: Ninja Gaiden 4. The next chapter in this action-packed franchise will see legendary ninja Ryu return, as well as Yakumo, a new protagonist in the series, set in a near-future Tokyo.
Team Ninja also announced they are partnering with PlatinumGames for Ninja Gaiden 4. Bringing action combat to a new level with Bloodbind Ninjutsu, revamped arsenals, signature brutality, and precision-based combat.
Ninja Gaiden 4 is set for release this Fall 2025, coming to Xbox, PC, PlayStation 5 and day one on Game Pass.
Ninja Gaiden 2 Black – Team Ninja (Tokyo, Japan)
That wasn’t all from Team Ninja, we also got a shadow drop of Ninja Gaiden 2: Black. Available day one with Game Pass.
With the original releasing back in 2008, Ninja Gaiden 2 returns graphically remastered in Unreal Engine 5. Players can step back into the role of Ryu Hayabusa and his dragon sword. This is a perfect time for players to jump into the world of Ninja Gaiden before the upcoming Ninja Gaiden 4!
South Of Midnight – Compulsion Games (Montreal, Canada)
We got an extensive look at South Of Midnight from Compulsion Games, a third-person action-adventure game set in the Deep South of America.
Compulsion Games offered us a great look at Hazel, the main protagonist, and the events that set her story in motion. We also got an extensive look at South of Midnights combat, world-building, and the art style behind the many macabre creatures we can expect to come across in the Deep South.
South Of Midnight revealed a release date of April 8th, 2025 which is not too far away at all and begins to line up the next few months of 2025. South of Midnight is releasing on Xbox, PC, Steam and day one on Game Pass.
DOOM: The Dark Ages – id Software (Richardson, Texas)
Doom: The Dark Ages takes us back to where the Slayer began in a prequel to 2016 first person shooter, Doom, set in a dark fantasy sci fi world. Id has said this is a great entry point for Doom newcomers and longtime fans , allowing unparalleled customisation and flexibility.
Id software explored three pillars of Doom: The Dark Ages; Combat, Exploration and Story, showcasing that Doom is set to be the most ambitious Doom to date.
Doom: The Dark Ages is set to release on May 15th, 2025, on Xbox, Steam, PlayStation 5, and day one on Game Pass.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 – Sandfall Interactive (Montpellier, France)
Rounding out the Showcase, we got an extensive look at Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. This debut title from Sandfall Interactive is a turn-based RPG set in a fantasy version of 19th-century France.
We got a good look at the game’s many mechanics, such as the reactive turn-based system and how the art direction is adding life to this great-looking world.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is set to release April 24th on Xbox, PC, and day one via Game Pass.
This Developer Direct was another great showing from Xbox. I always love getting a more hands-on showcase from the studios. These titles are not too far away, with the majority all arriving before the end of May. Stay tuned to GamesNight as we cover more of these titles leading up to release!
